Happy Watergate Day

On this day in 1972, five men, who were eventually connected to the Nixon administration, were arrested for burglarizing the Democratic National Committee offices in the Watergate Hotel.

From my dad, who in the summer of 1973, was an intern for Jack Brooks (D-TX): “I will always remember it. I will never forget the following summer, when I got to be a very small part of that Watergate investigation even if it meant standing at the copy machine making copies for staff members of the House Government Activities Subcommittee. I would read the Washington Post every morning to find out every new thing that Woodward and Bernstein had uncovered and then watch the television news in the evening. The whole city was in a buzz. The Democrats, including myself, hated Nixon and we were all like sharks going crazy with blood in the water.”
