All good points. Your thought about progress in netbook technology being hampered by size and cost expectation is well taken. It will likely take awhile for newer, more powerful processors, etc to trickle all the way down to the netbook pricing and size category but I think in the meantime, the normal consumer will be willing to sacrifice some amount of performance (whether realized or not) for price and size. Furthermore, the demand appears to be growing such that innovation MUST happen or the whole netbook business model will fail. So, unlike the auto industry, the consumer demand for small, reasonably priced netbooks will likely drive greater leaps in nano-technology than would otherwise occur.

This is only arbitrarily related, but I once listened to a Lynyrd Skynyrd greatest hits album on my way from Valley View to Houston. After listening to almost every song on the album I thought, “Man. CCR is better the Skynyrd in practically every way, but CCR didn’t write Freebird.” I’m not sure how to reconcile that.
